Understanding Health Insurance Plan Types: HMO, PPO, EPO, POS, HDHP

When choosing health insurance, it’s important to understand the main types of plans:

- HMO (Health Maintenance Organization): Requires you to use doctors in the network and get referrals to see specialists.

- PPO (Preferred Provider Organization): Offers more flexibility to see any doctor but costs more.

- EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization): Only covers in-network services but doesn’t require referrals.

- POS (Point of Service): Hybrid plan that combines HMO and PPO features.

- HDHP (High Deductible Health Plan): Comes with lower premiums but higher deductibles; compatible with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).

Each plan type fits different needs based on cost, doctor choice, and usage patterns.
