A Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is a window outside the yearly Open Enrollment Period when you can sign up for health insurance. You may qualify for an SEP if you've experienced certain life events, such as:

- Losing your health coverage

- Moving to a new area

- Getting married

- Having or adopting a child

- If your income falls below a certain threshold

Depending on the event, you have 60 days before or after it to enroll in a plan. Medicaid and CHIP enrollment is available year-round. For job-based plans, a minimum of 30 days is given for SEP enrollment.
