Does the plan require referrals to see specialists, and will that impact my care?

With some plans (like HMOs), you need a referral from your primary care doctor to see a specialist. Other plans (like PPOs) let you see specialists directly but may cost more if they’re out of network. Knowing the referral rules helps you decide if the plan meets your care preferences.
